The Ministry of Communications, Knowledge and Technology (MCKT) is committed, through the Department of Research and Knowledge Business, to support research projects aligned to the mandate of the Ministry and pushing the country’s research agenda.

Vision 2036 of Botswana stresses the need for the transformation of the economy from dependence on natural resources to knowledge economy, an ideal adopted by MCKT to use research to realize the vision.

Living with Disabilities (PLWD) and Rural Communities groups, in research and science. The Call covers research projects in the following priority areas:
a. Mining, Minerals & Mineral beneficiation;
b. Human Health & Social sciences
c. Water, Environment and Energy
d. Indigenous Knowledge Systems;
e. Livestock & Veterinary Research;
f. Food and Agriculture
g. Digitisation

It is envisaged that the research interventions shall:
a. Provide commercially viable socio-economic solutions leading to value chain development and downstream employment opportunities;
b. Create a conducive and competitive environment to stimulate private sector participation in research;
c. Strengthen participation of women and vulnerable groups in research;
d. Promote collaborative multi-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary research;
e. Demonstrate value and impact for sustainable economic development;
f. Provide transformative and innovation policy recommendations for value addition.
